Released in January 2024, J Christ is a wild, stylized and unapologetically provocative take on faith, fame and internet mythology—written and directed by Lil Nas X himself. From a celestial stairway of celebrity impersonators to an infernal kitchen, the video is packed with set pieces that are surreal, theatrical and rich with symbolism.
Shot entirely on soundstages in Mexico City, the video was produced by SixTwentySix with production services by Habitant. The execution demanded custom sets, VFX coordination with Mathematic and a hyper-detailed production flow to follow Lil Nas X’s creative lead as both director and performer.
J Christ received a 2024 Telly Award and a Silver prize at the Berlin Music Video Awards for Best Direction, both honoring Lil Nas X’s directorial debut. The video’s blend of biblical reference and bold satire cemented its place as one of the year’s most talked-about releases.
Heaven to Hell, Start to Finish
From an ark mid-flood to a basketball match with Satan, the project moved through visual extremes with total commitment. Every scene was designed to provoke, invite conversation and push the medium forward.
